It seems so odd that just two weeks ago it was still hot, hot, hot here…and tonight, we’re having the first official fire of the season. Wow! How did that happen so fast?
I had on my to-do list to get the fireplace “swept.” (Lucky for me, Jay had it on his to-do list, too, and he did it this weekend.) Look at all the gunk he got out of our fireplace yesterday…
Yucky, isn’t it? We had lots of fires last year…with the ice storm and all, but holy smokes, I never would have imagined that much gunk. So I share this just in case you have a fireplace (and are looking for something to add to your get-the-house-ready-for-winter-to-do-list.) I always knew getting the chimney swept was a good idea…but wow, I never imagined this much gunk would be lurking inside my chimney.
So go forth and sweep…
Wow! That is a lot of gunk. Good thing you remembered to clean it out before you use it again. And a good reminder to everyone else with wood burning fire places. 🙂
We have a chimney sweep company come and take care of our 3 chimney’s. Did you do this on your own???
I’ve hired someone come to clean out our chimney and I have to say that was a big mistake! I discovered when I had our very honest handyman come and do a job that the chimney sweep sold us a bunch of totally useful caps for other vents! They made it sound so dire and important that I didn’t have them and since I had no idea, I got taken! Frankly I never thought of doing it ourselves… although I don’t think my hubby is going to overcome his fear of heights if I ask him to do it, lol. 😀
