Hello my 13 in 13 friends! Can you believe the month is already halfway over? I thought it would be fun to do a little mid-month check in on our January goals. I’d love to hear how you’re doing, plus give you a little update on my goals so far.
Goal #1: Run 500 miles in 2013. As you may know, I’m a big believer in the idea of bite-sizing big projects and goals into small bites. And that’s just what I’ve done with my 500 miles goal. I’ve created a weekly mileage target of 10 miles per week. At 10 miles per week, I will either run 520 miles, or have a some wiggle room in there in case I need to take a week or two off. Based on my October and November running goals, I imagine I will add distance throughout the year…but for now 10 miles a week is a terrific, somewhat challenging target.
So how am I doing so far? Well, for the first two weeks of 2013, I met my weekly mileage goal. So I’m off to a good start there. I’m tracking my progress on daily mile…which is really motivating. Can’t wait to print out my mileage report at the end of the year and see the big 500 on it. 🙂
Goal #2: Read The Happiness Project. I’m also on pace with this goal. I know this because I’m reading it on my iPad using the Kindle App. As you may know, the Kindle App has a handy little tool that tells you, in percentage, how far along you are in a book. This is very handy when you have a goal to finish a book within a certain amount of time. I have to admit that reading a book for fun and having a deadline seems like an oxymoron. Luckily, though, my deadline hasn’t taken the fun out of reading this book. In fact, it has been really nice since it has motivated me to carve out time in the evening to make reading a priority. In a nutshell: Goal number 2 is in good shape, too.
I have lots of ideas swirling around for my remaining 11 goals…but no final commitments just yet. I’m enjoying the process of thinking about the possibilities.
So that’s the update so far. The excitement of January and the fresh start it offers hasn’t started to fade a bit here. How about you? How are you doing with your 13 in 13?
Thanks for checking in!
Sounds like you are doing great with your goals. I love tracking miles/minutes/days. It’s so motivating when you see yourself making progress. Keep up the good work!!
Goal 1 – Start back to Zumba – I have started back two days a week, that’s what I was doing. I’m still making it a priority and I can feel the effects from the past two weeks!
Goal 2 – Join Weight Watchers – joined and tracking daily – did do great with my points week 1 but did so much better than I would have… weigh in day tomorrow…….
Goal 3 – I’ll tell you what Goal 3 is NOT – it is not a set amount of pounds or inches that I want to lose in 2013. I don’t care if I only lose five pounds. I want to do the above for the reasons listed above. I am NOT good with a scale and I will not let that defeat me!
Goal 3 – To Scrap More –
Zumba is my stress relief; Scrapping is my therapy. I am going to try to do something scrapping related five nights a week. Last week I got three days in – the first week I had four days in. So far this week – 2…. but it’s more than if I didn’t have that goal so it’s working.
Goal 4 – MORE
Goal 4 has to do with my One Little Word of 2013 – MORE. For this goal I am choosing MORE KINDNESS. Little Random Acts of Kindness (RAK’s) to spread more kindness and hope it brightens someone’s day and maybe, just maybe, they will pay it forward.I haven’t made a lot of progress but I did do one RAK. What’s holding me up is I want to type one of those little notes people stick or hand out with things explaining what they are and why…. I will get to that this weekend.
Goal 5 – Read 30 Books – Why 30 you ask? I have no idea it’s just the number that popped in my head. I am making TONS of progress collecting ebooks. Put in a birthday wish list of a Nook HD. Reading one book now and hope to finish it this weekend.
Nice job SuzyQ! You’ve got some terrific goals planned out and it sounds like you’re making good progress with them as well. Congrats!
Wow. You are in way better shape on your goals than I am! I finally identified 2 goals to start out with. Had a book idea swimming around in my head for a couple of months. Goal #1 is to actually write it! I have almost half of it outlined and I have finally started the actual writing, but it’s very slow going. The ideas are coming faster than the actual putting words to paper (or rather computer screen!). I think mapping it out and setting those smaller bite-sized goals are going to be a necessity for this one. Goal #2 is to maintain a clean house. While I like this goal because it really is something I want and not just something I feel like I OUGHT to do, I’m not sure it’s that great of a goal because there is no deadline or objective way of measuring progress. But for now, clutter is being kept under control. And things are organized fairly well. I have a cleaning schedule written out, but I’m having a little trouble getting myself into the habit of actually working the schedule.
Sounds like you’re doing a super job with your goals Shannon – a book is a huge undertaking, so having it halfway outlined and the writing started is terrific! Congrats!
I’m not doing so great on my goal for the month which is “Embrace Routine” (embrace being my OLW) and trying to set a consistent evening and morning routine. I’m doing fairly good on the evening routine, except I’ve worked late the past two nights which throws it off.
I just had a brainstorm about something I could use to track my goals similar to your smashbook, but something I already have on hand since I don’t want to spend more money! Hurray! I think having a little book would help.
Glad you did a mid month check in. My 13th goal is keeping up on Project Life, my seafoam kit arrived on Monday and this weekend I want to block out time to get it set up (date stamped) and put my first three weeks together.
Nice job Alissa! Project Life is my goal #3. I’m going to give myself the month of February to work out the kinks. So even though it is a goal that will last all year long…I’m still making it February’s goal. I’ll share more soon. 🙂
Yikes! I keep forgetting to check in! Guess I should include accountability as a goal! I’ve made a list of my goals, some are specific, some are broad! I’m also wanting to incorporate my olw into my goals. In no particular order:
declutter house, eat healther, cook in vs. eating out, stop wasting time, scrap more, learn to sew, better my photography, save $, get fit, no dishes in sink at the end of the night, send letters/cards more often, read more, be happy.
Wonderful list of goals Melinda! Thanks for sharing them. 🙂
