Random thought #1: one week left in the 12 week challenge! We’re almost there!! Keep up the great effort all of you … I’m so proud of what you’re accomplishing. I can’t wait to hear the final updates next week at this time! For me … it’s time to *sprint* to the finish line …
Random thought #2: I sent out my ezine this morning … it had a bunch of ideas to make laundry more fun. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Wish I could just make it go away altogether … but in light of that, making it fun is a good second bet. Not yet a subscriber? Random thought #3: My kids and I are hanging out at home this week getting ready for school and what not. We’ve reorganized both rooms in preparation for the new year … and the time of year when life gets totally nuts for me and my family. I just love the energy a clear room creates! I think it’s one of the many, many reasons I absolutely love what I do.
I’ve finally learned how to organize with my kids. (It’s so easy when it’s someone else or someone else’s child — there’s just a dynamic when it’s your own offspring. Know what I mean?) My daughter is very decisive. She can decide instantly if she wants something or not … and I’ve learned to not second guess her decisions. Talking her into keeping one thing she’s ready to let go of stops *all* momentum. Yesterday, we had none of that. It was great! I didn’t even flinch when she said goodbye to Mr. Potato Head … and, honestly, I wasn’t ready for him to be leaving us so soon. 😉
My son … very indecisive. I have learned to expect it to take twice as long as it could to tackle his room and closet. He actually loves organizing just has his own thoughts about how it should be approached …and he gets very distracted by the decision making. But he loves the end result and he’s even good at arranging and displaying his little treasures in his room.
So all in all, it was so much fun to get their rooms in shape. We even rearranged the furniture — something I used to LOVE to do as a child. Did you do that, too? I swear my bed was in every possible place it could have been in my room at least once before I moved out to go to college! What fun.
Alright … enough randomness! More later 🙂
I used to love to move my room around too! I notice I don’t do it too much with my own kids…I need to seriously get into my kids rooms too…they have just so many little things here and there that need to be sorted and tossed. My biggest challenge with my oldest is that while he doesn’t have a ton of stuff, he can never seem to put it away, even though his closet has drawers for toy storage…something isn’t working in there! Rrrrrr. I also loved the laundry ideas!!! I’m not a big fan of laundry but your ideas were fantastic! I always LOVE reading your stuff and your blog…it’s ALWAYS GREAT!!! Thanks!!!
Came across your website and blog! Love it! I am a scrapbook and paper crafts designer/teacher/studio owner… http://www.jrdesigns.typepad.com …as well as mom to two boys and wife to hubby. I love to get organized and stay organized. However, my biggest problem would be non-cooperation from my family to ever maintain any systems I have in place. They are well-behaved, wonderful kids, but they couldn’t hit the hamper with their dirty socks for nothing (and they both play basketball well, I might add). We’ve got a place for everything and yet by the end of the day, NOTHING is in it’s place. And what is your trick, or should I say, motivating factor that causes your kids to part with anything? Both my boys (and even my husband) don’t like getting rid of anything. Me, I’d like to be more clutter free. I just wish organization and maintaining it wasn’t such a “battle” at our house. 🙁

I still love re-arranging things! Just have a look at the havoc in my dining room right now… My girls and I have been planning to redo their room for about 6 months. We talked theme (horses!!) and colors (sky blue, sunshine yellow, grass green) we arranged the furniture. I swear I just beamed when my 10 year old brough my an overhead drawing of their room showing furniture placement!! Everything they own is in the dining room and school starts 1 WEEK from today. Gotta finish the painting tonight and start moving things back in…
We will have lots of display space, some closed storage, new bedside lights and … gosh theres lots to do. I better get back to work so I can work with them on this tonight!
We have not found the bedding yet, but I have faith it is out there somewhere… Wish me luck!
have a lovely day!

Your blog always makes me feel like I’m not so weird after all…LOL. While my family doesn’t understand my constant need to organize and most importantly re-organize, it’s really nice to know someone else gets it. I posted on my own blog the other day about having to have the entire house clean before school starts and what that really means is a cleaned, gone-through, got-rid-of, reorganized life. Thanks always for the inspiration!
YAY! I’m not the only weird one…one of my favorite things to do, even when younger, was draw up room designs on graph paper, amking sure to measure everything perfectly and draw it out several ways…before THEN rearranging my room. I STILL do that to some extentthe planning portion helps me relax, I guess…though I must admit that I am a far better PLANNER than a DO-er when it comes to cleaning up and stuff (yikes, I can’t believe I just admitted that!)

Will you be my new best friend? I LOVE your blog. You are adorable. And I’m addicted to organizing!
Okay, Abs… I try to weed out the old stuff in my scrapping supplies, but I think, “I may need this some day.” Or, “This would be great for a class because I don’t want to use up all my good stuff…” Any thoughts???
