Where and how do you store your jewelry? Mine is in my closet. And right now, I am semi-obsessed with jewelry organization! I am sure my latest obsession is partly because I’m immersed in in my closet reorganization project, and partly because of the amazing ideas I see on Pinterest! I seriously have amassed such fun and functional jewelry organizing pins that it has been really hard for me to figure out which option I wanted to do! Check out my pin board, and Aby has a great collection of pins, too!
Aby often suggests jewelry tray organizers to clients, and these are great because they can be stacked on a shelf or placed inside a drawer. You can get as many as you need, so it’s a very customizable solution. But she also stresses that there is no one-size-fits-all solution, and people who are more visual (like me) need to see what they’ve got.
Jewelry storage also depends largely on the type of jewelry collection you have. Fine jewelry, costume jewelry, earrings, cocktail rings, bangles… I seem to have a little of everything, but mostly I have a large collection of necklaces. A few years ago, I got frustrated at the lack of space and functional design of jewelry boxes. (Why does the height never match the length of an actual necklace? Should I honestly only have 4 necklaces?) I also wanted to be able to easily see what I had. So I whipped up two of these babies.
I cut squares of foam board, covered them with fabric, poked in small hooks, and strung picture wires on the back to hang them with. It was easy, cheap, and accomplished what I needed. But my collection has outgrown these, and now with my closet re-do, I have more wall space to play with.
So, will I go with the clever idea of silverware drawer organizers mounted on the wall? A framed, fabric-covered peg board? Shower rod with s-hooks? Repurposed rake? Oh, the possibilities! Though it was hard to choose just one, I have started a new, “pinspired” jewelry hanger. It’s not ready for the reveal yet, but I promise to show it off when it’s all done. I’m pretty excited about it!

Happy Organizing!
I got some seagrass bulletin boards with a black frame. Sprayed them with several coats of Febreeze to get rid of the smell, then mounted them with Command strips on the wall. I use clear pushpins for earrings and necklace. It looks like artwork!
Here’s a link to an old blog post of mine, where I posted a photo of my jewelry board project: http://janconnair.wordpress.com/2009/03/18/crafty
My dilemma was the bigger, costume type necklaces. I keep them in sandwich/snack bags & put them in a decorative box on my dresser. When I want one, I dump out the box & they’re not tangled! yea! I keep finer chains in a divided compartment craft box. It’s very functional.
Our house was built in the 70s, so I have a built-in vanity right next to our glass-walled shower. I, too, have a lot of necklaces, so the outside of the shower is now home to a variety of command adhesive hooks. It was just a “this works” solution, but I actually like the funky groove it gives with all my necklaces on display
I like your fabric squares! Here are my DIY Jewelry Displays! http://www.getsnazzy.com/2012/03/my-diy-jewelry-displays/ Bracelets are next- ideas?

Happy Organizing! I love your site 🙂
Here is my fairly recent post on jewelry organization – http://ccscheapchic.blogspot.com/2012/02/holy-statement-necklace.html
I made the jewelry board in the linked post by covering a bulletin board with batting and satin and then hanging my necklaces, bracelets and earrings from pins. I love it!
I made a design on my wall with old wine corks and tacks to hang my jewelry 🙂
I struggle with my necklaces. I have a standing jewelry case with about 10 hooks but no matter what my necklaces get tangled. I have to take them all off of one hook to get the one I want. It is so frustrating. I want to keep them away from the air so they don’t tarnish and I need to be able to see them in order to remember what I have. I have yet to find a solution other than weeding out every year and getting rid of some necklaces. Not my favorite task.
Came across this creative little gem on Pinterest and thought of you: http://www.recyclart.org/2012/02/rake-jewelry-organiser/
I have two solutions that I love!
One is a frame with a screen in it that I hang next to my bathroom mirror for all my hook earrings (my husband helped me make it). There are instructions for a similar one here:

The other is a fabric covered “bulletin board” that I purchased at kohl’s http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-533349/suede-memo-board.jsp
for my collection of dragonfly pins. I was able to slide the pins through the fabric and foam to display them all on the wall next to my dresser, and can easily remove one if I want to wear it. It would work for any pins/broaches, but I love showing off my dragonfly collection!
Allysson, those are both great solutions. Thanks for sharing! It’s great how you used the message board in a different way, and I love that it lets you store AND display your collection!
