Have you ever tried taking two steps at once? If not, stand up right now and give it a try. I’m serious. Get up from your computer (or put down your smart phone) and try taking two steps at once.
Did you do it?
I’m guessing that no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t figure out how to take two steps at once. Maybe you took one really big step, or perhaps you hopped across the floor using both feet. But you didn’t take two steps at once, did you? While your hop may have propelled you farther ahead than your typical one-foot-in-front of the other kind of step, this type of action isn’t efficient nor is it sustainable. (If it was, we’d all be hopping our way through life instead of walking, right?)
Now, aside from a good laugh, you may be wondering what this has to do with getting organized and managing your to-do list. And here it is:
One step at a time is how everything gets done!
Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list, or you aren’t sure how to get going again on your organizing projects, remember that everything gets done one step at a time. So let go of the pressure to do more and just choose one step forward. Then put one foot in front of the other and take that step.
Happy hopping…err, I mean organizing,
Yes, this is the right approach. My principle is, that no matter how small the step is, the better to do it (on daily basis) than not doing it at all. You are then a bit closer of accomplishing something.
Good advice. Thank you!
