Thanks for all the comments on the last post about organizing books. You all reminded me of some of my other favorites and I learned about some new books, too. Great fun all this sharing of favorite organizing books. So if you haven’t shared yours yet, feel free to jump in and share on this post.
OK…my next organizing book to share (and these are in no order by the way…I like them all for different reasons) is SORTED! The Ultimate Guide to Organising Your Life – Once And For All by Lissanne Oliver. As you may have guessed by the spelling of the word organizing, Lissanne is also from Australia. (Interesting, isn’t it?) And while this is one of the things I like about the book, her Australian way of putting things, I love many other things about it, too.
For one…it is a tiny little thing measuring just 5 1/4″ by 6 3/4″. Which is important because it makes this whole topic of getting organized feel very doable. But what’s better is that it lives up to it’s size. Lissanne does in fact make getting organized very doable. She spends about fifty pages on the basics…why and how to get sorted (a.k.a. organized) and provides truths and techniques. Then, the next 140 pages are dedicated to recipes—simple to follow, step-by-step instructions for organizing various areas of your life—from paperwork to living areas. Lissanne has a knack for boiling down organizing projects to what is essential, and by following her recipes it’s easy to take action on the various projects in your home.
The best part of all is that Lissanne is complete sweetheart. I met her at the NAPO convention last spring and she had her little book sitting there next to her…and I just had to have it! It called to me from across the room. But not to worry, you don’t have to stalk Lissanne at a convention to get a copy of your own. The Australian version of this book, the one I have, is available via the link above. An Americanized version is hot off the press and now available at Barnes and Noble stores. So now you, too, can go forth and get sorted!
Thanks for sharing your fav. books. I have sorted and love it too and I’ve just ordered the other one from the library.
Hey Aby, thanks for the great post! Barnes and Noble’s sale means you pay just $5.99 online! Wow! That is so cheap for a hardcover book! If you’re looking for the U.S. cover (it’s very different to the one shown about), you’ll find it here: http://lissanne.wordpress.com/2009/01/05/get-your-life-organized-for-under-10/
Readers might like to know that Target also stock my book – https://www.target.com/SORTED-Ultimate-Guide-Organising-Your/dp/1740665201 (although slightly dearer at $13.46). Judging by the cover, it’s the Aussie version though.
SORTED! has been a best-seller here, so maybe it will also be popular in the states too.
Sorry Aby, I don’t know how to make links in a post!
Love the book, and need to ad it to my birthday wish list. The first thing i organized were finances (part of the office), and i don’t have the extra cash right now, but usually when i write something down it works it’s way out and i figure out how to get it.
I’ve just ordered both the books you’ve recommended in the last 2 posts. I’m laughing a little that I want to get organised & have less clutter & yet I have 2 new books on their way to me!! My huge book shelves are already very full!! LOL!! I am really looking forward to reading them both & getting myself & my home sorted!
I wish I could get a copy of your book Aby but it’s over £60 on Amazon in the UK!!!!!!!
By the way, could you tell me what NAPO is please?
Hi Aby, Lissanne is a bit of a legend in my books (pardon the pun). She has such a wonderful way of looking at the world and colour and design…leaves me breathless. I hope your readers in the US can get a hold of her book. It will change your view of everything!!
NAPO is the National Association of Professional Organizers. 🙂
