Wow…no wonder I waited to paint my hallway for so long. What a royal pain in the legs, back, arms and feet. 😉 In my mind that project was going to take about three hours. Which it probably would have, had I only painted the walls. But I painted the doors and trim, too. And OMG…that was a s-l-o-w process to say the least. I painted seven door sides (I only did the side facing into the hall, except in the bathroom where I did both sides.) And I painted trim for days. Literally. It took forever! And I still have to paint the coat closet doors…but my friends that will have to wait for another day, week, or maybe year, for that matter. See, my three hour (in my mind) project actually took over 12 hours in the real world. Yikes! That’s a lot of time to be going up and down a ladder, bending down on the floor to paint trim, and finally, finally rolling on a beautiful shade of Bone White paint from Benjamin Moore. Oh how I love this new paint. So at the end of it all, there was a nice reward, it really does look nice. And it’s done! Woohoo!
Other check marks for the weekend included:
- Laundry. (check!)
- List those two items on Craig’s list that are left over from last weekend. (uh…no check…)
- Finalize Halloween costumes. (check!)
- Make ghosts. (check!)
- And a couple of add-ons—sign up for next session of yoga (check!) and sign up Kailea for Tae-Kwon-Do (check!)
Well…that was a fun little endorphin rush. Just saying “check” over and over has made me quite happy. Yay for endorphins!
Now it’s your turn! Please tell me about all of your check marks—I would love to hear about them. I was happy beyond words that so many of you joined me in Finish It Friday this week. Believe me, I thought about you more than once as I was going up and down that ladder, painting those doors, painting that trim…painting…painting…painting… Thanks for being there with me in spirit. 🙂
Okay…that’s it for now. But check back again soon because I have a really exciting announcement to make. (And it has nothing to do with babies…)
I hear you on painting trim. I was doing that myself. Who knew painting a door would be such a pain as well? I am proud to report I finished painting my fiance’s bathroom. CHECK!
I also pulled my winter clothes out of storage and freshened up the house for winter. Winter preparation = check!
Finished all the laundry and even put it away. Check!
Enjoyed some time outdoors before the weather turns too cold. Check!
Ok, so that one wasn’t on the list but it was still great to do. Since I had finished painting before I tried to take another project, I was free to do as I pleased for the rest of the weekend. I wasn’t stressed at all and I actually did more. My fiance said it was the best weekend he had with me in a long time. That’s progress, people!
Thanks go to Aby for writing such an inspiring blog that helps me to remember that organizing and accomplishing can be fun and fufilling! Not stressful and overwhelming.

I love having it all done. Plus I was so efficient on Saturday, I could do more scrapbooking on Sunday and clear off the DVR on Sunday while my husband was gone!
I just spent 3 weeks painting 3 bedrooms. I only worked while the boys were in school. I scheduled one wall per day and trim on the 5th day of each week. I was achy and sore after the first day but I can say I feel great now as my body hasn’t had enough bending and stretching in too many years.
It was also great to clear out a lot of crap and organize some more since I moved the boys into different rooms. It was a big project that isn’t quite
finished but the progress feels SO good.
On Thursday night, this is how I envisioned my weekend list:
laundry, laundry, laundry
play with my boys
filing
blogging
budgeting
make bread
grocery shop
clean out some files on my computer
On Sunday night, here is what I accomplished:
*cue crickets*
I spent the weekend sick in bed! But that’s okay because now it’s a new week. I’m back at work and having more to do at home will make me that more efficient, right.
I don’t have a check list but I wanted to empathize with you. My hubby and I remodeled our first house and it was a slow, long process. We sold the house and decided the next house we would buy would be brand new. I didn’t want to do any painting in the new house as in the old house I painted some rooms more than once. I was exhausted and done with painting.
We bought a new house and then I got the itch to paint. After painting one room, I remember quickly why I bought a new house so I wouldn’t have to paint!
I am thinking next time I will just hire painters as they are well worth their value.
I finished a sewing project for the high school choir — a cute little red shrug to wear over black skirt and t-shirt. This year there was a girl with a very unique body, so altering the pattern took a bit of work. I also made the assignments for which girl wears which shrug, and emailed the spreadsheets to the choir teacher.
And I moved a lot of things out of my kitchen and family room so the wood floor can be refinished. I’m taking a short break, and back to work I go! The workmen come tomorrow!
I am a little late checking in, but I wanted to make sure that I posted what I checked off my list.
*Took my son to the bday party (check)

We decided to shift priorities for the weekend since we had no rain. Got caught up on all outside stuff. WHEW!
I did complete most of my Finish It Friday tasks. It helped so much that I posted my to-do’s on your site. I could see them all day and it helped motivate me get through each of them.
Aby, your idea of Finish It Friday is so inspiring. I’ve been quite productive in the past couple of weeks because I started addressing the annoying, but important, items on my list: call old town to make sure I do not owe motor vehicle taxes (I didn’t!); talk to lawyer about estate planning; have extra keys made; sign up for enough life, A&D, STD, and LTD insurance coverage; etc. My list is still robust, but now I feel like I can tackle the complicated items. Thanks!
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
