You’ll get the motivation and ideas you need to tackle your organizing to-do list in one fun-filled weekend. Join the fun now…
How long have you lived in your current home? For Jay and I, it’s close to two decades! It’s hard to believe…well, at least until you start looking around. That’s when you see that this place we call home could use a little TLC.
In light of this, I’m starting a new series on my blog called Project Refresh. In each post I’ll share a simple project designed to refresh an area of my home or life. These won’t be major makeovers, but just simple little projects to freshen up a space, my wardrobe, my schedule, etc. My to-do list is long, and I firmly believe that everything is more fun with friends along for the ride. That’s why I’ll be sharing, and why I’m inviting you to join me in the fun!
How can you participate? Well, it can be as simple or as involved as you’d like. When you see a Project Refresh post, you can simply leave a comment sharing what project you’re working on or plan to start soon. Or, if you want to dive in a bit deeper, you can share photos of your project on Instagram using the hashtags #ProjectRefresh and #simplify101. If you do, you might just see your photos and projects featured here on the simplify 101 blog. Fun? I think so, too!
If you’re thinking, I’m ready to refresh an area of my home but I’m not sure where to start, here are some ideas to get you started.
Make a Project Refresh list. Simply pull out a piece of paper or your favorite list-keeping app, and brainstorm a short list of project ideas. Take a little walk around your home and look for areas that are a bit tired, dated, or cluttered, anything that could use a little freshening up. Here are some ideas for your list:
Free Project Refresh Ideas
- Rearrange the furniture
- Put away a few knick-knacks, or restage the items on your shelves and other flat surfaces
- Declutter a space
- Streamline your schedule by eliminating activities you no longer enjoy or by creating more structure in your week (i.e. create a cleaning schedule)
Low-Cost
- Paint a room
- Paint / refinish a piece of furniture or accessories
- Refresh an organizing system
- Get some new accessories (for your home or your wardrobe)
- Hang something new on a wall
- Get some new throw-pillow covers
- Pot a succulent
- Wash the windows
Your project can be as simple or as complex as you want. But the best bet is a project that will leave you feeling energized and refreshed when you’re done!
So what do you say, are you ready to freshen up your home or life a bit? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments! Thanks for sharing.

Project Refresh is right where my head is right now…in fact, I finished two projects today that have been hanging over my head, and I’m so excited about how they will improve both the function and the look of our home!
Oooh – sounds fun Tiffany! Would love to hear more about your projects. 🙂
Great idea, Aby! I’d love to join in! To be honest, I’m still deep into paper decluttering as I pulled apart all of my systems during your latest Paper Clutter class. At least our taxes are done now! Yay! I’m also a firm believer in that you don’t have to spend lots of money to make some major home improvements. After I finish up with the paper, I’ll be hiring someone to clean our windows in the places that I can’t reach. I’ll probably do most of the interiors myself. There is some time with this as our El Niño storms aren’t over yet. Maybe in May? I’m putting it in my Planner Pad now. 🙂
Yay for having your taxes done and your continued progress on the paper system refresh! Nice work, Cynthia! Can’t wait to see your May project refresh projects. 🙂
Aby, great minds think alike. I just decluttered my kitchen counter and love the open space and ease of cleaning that was the immediate result. Some duplicate dishes, unused mugs & glassware are packed in the garage for donation—we haven’t missed a one of them. A few other spots are on my list…thanks for the encouragement.
Sounds like a great project! Isn’t it funny how mugs and glassware multiply in our cabinets when we’re not looking? 😉 Can’t wait to hear about your upcoming projects.
