As you know, I firmly believe that the more you love how a space looks, the more motivated you’ll be to keep it organized. This is definitely the case for me, anyway. I’m a visual person and someone who is very affected by my surroundings. Too much visual clutter is distracting to me, making it hard to focus and get things done. But, a space that is completely sparse and sterile is just as uncomfortable. For me, an organized space filled with a well-edited collection of things I love is the perfect balance.
Do you have a feel for your style? It’s a fun thing to explore and figure out. I recently found out about an interactive tool on the Home Goods website that is designed to help you figure out your decorating style. Knowing your decorating style can help you create a space that is comfortable and homey to you, giving you that extra boost of motivation to keep it organized!
To use this online tool you simply answer a short series of questions, and view photos of rooms and select your favorite. Then, at the end they sum up your style. For me, this tool was amazingly accurate. My style is “Earthy Casual” which is described, in part, as follows:
You’re interested in creating a welcoming home where people feel comfortable and happiness flourishes. (Yep, that sounds like me.)
You value order. You feel happiest if your home is well organized. (Okay…that’s a gimme, but honestly, there wasn’t a question that said “What do you do for a living?” The tool just figured this out all on its own.)
Try to avoid letting things into your home that you don’t really love. (Heaven knows I’m all about that, along with the notion of letting go of things I don’t really love.)
Once your style is identified, the site also gives you specific ideas for putting your style to work in your home.
So if you’re up for five minutes of fun which leads to some great insight on your decorating style, go here and use the StyleScope tool. If you do give it a try, come back here and let me know your style. Are you an Earthy Casual like me, or a Bohemian Classic or a Dramatic Eclectic? Does your style describe you as accurately as Earthy Casual describes me? I can’t wait to hear!
I’m earthy casual too!
What fun this was, thanks for sharing Aby.
How Fun! I am “Country Casual”. Here is a copy of what it said about me and it is so true!
Your home expresses your open, easygoing approach to life. You love unique finds, and can turn a few mismatched garden chairs or floral teacups into a charming arrangement. You appreciate a pretty mix of relaxed pieces, like painted wood or weathered furniture, lovely florals and other patterns, lots of throws and pillows, mementos and bunches of fresh flowers that give your home a unique sense of breeziness and charm.
You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.
That was fun. Thanks for sharing the link. I’m Country Casual and it is totally accurate!
I’m an earthy casual too – thanks for the link!
I’m Elegant Classic.
There were several questions that I struggled with between 2 choices. So I am not sure that it’s totally accurate. Pretty close though.
Thanks, for the link.
Thanks for the link to the tool. My style came up as Earthy Modern. That describes me pretty well…I suppose the earthy part comes from living on a farm for the majority of my life and relishing every moment spent outside. And it said that I prefer a streamlined look and nothing frilly. Which is totally me!
hillary, you are a Country Casual

Elements like pillows, throws, overstuffed furniture, and good lighting set the mood. You may also enjoy layering different fabrics or mixing patterns to create a cozy effect.
so fun!
Hi Aby,
Not surprisingly, I’m Bohemian Eclectic! It’s accurate–I love lots of styles whether it’s decorating, music, movies or books! That was fun and came at a good time for me. Thanks for the link!
Thanks for the link Aby! This was great. I’m an earthy casual and it was pretty accurate.
You have a lot of Country Casual readers. The description was very accurate.
Global Modern, which is spot on! That must be why I love stores like World Market and to buy decor when I travel.
What a charming tool! :)) … and that’s my style:
*** nadine, you are a Country Classic ***
You have a naturally refined sensibility with an appreciation for tradition and history. You value beauty, craftsmanship, and family heirlooms, but you like to open things up with pretty, easy-going pieces like painted wood or distressed furniture, lovely florals and other patterns, and bunches of fresh flowers that give your home a breezy, relaxed feeling. You love unique finds, have a thrifty, creative side, and can make these things work together.

So many thanks for sharing! Love that! :))
Very fun – I’m Earthy Casual too. Surprising to me, I thought I’d be Earthy Modern.
Thanks for sharing the link. A fun little break to take today.
That was fun! I’m Earthy Casual and think the description fits.
That was fun! I came out Earthy Casual, but I had to put myself into the question’s world, they did not reflect my own! 10 min until visitors arrive, I’m making sure the poopy diapers are outside in the good garbage can, and not the main smell of the house, and reminding the boys to pick up the building toys so that they are not tripping hazards. Our family has too many allergies for adding scented candles.
I usually prepare the drinks and snacks with the company because that’s part of the fun, but I think of the house as a lab for living and creating in, not necessarily one of the projects that is being created.
My husband on the other hand is sensitive to visual clutter (particularly on the horizontal surfaces he sees on entering the house), and has a great eye for balance in a room.
So I’m learning to love de-cluttering and organizing, because he loves order, and I love him!

I am Bohemian Casual, which seems to be me. I really don’t have a “style” and gravitate to whatever I like but yet want my home to feel relaxed and comfy!! Thank you for the tool!
Thanks for the link! I’m Country Casual. So fun to explore as I’ve been doing some decorating stuff lately.
Earthy Casual too!
I got Earthy Casual too, and I think it spells me out to a tee! Now to get things together and make it appear that I know what I’m doing here! LOL!!! Thanks!
Country Casual here, and it fits me to a “T” – right down to the “happy home colors” it gave me!
