Happy Friday my friends! I missed chatting with you about the weekend last Friday. I hope you had a good weekend and a good week. Around here it’s been a busy week. Family-wise, we’re getting into the summer groove, and all of that is going well. We’re keeping cool and the kids are having some fun. Business-wise we’ve been busy putting the finishing touches on my newest online workshop Organizing with Your Kids. (Update: This class is now available as a self-paced online class.) It’s really fun to see it all coming together. I’m super excited to open this workshop and share the information, tips and ideas with other parents so they can give their kids the gift of organizing.
So I thought it would be fun to kick off the weekend with a Freebie Friday. Up for grabs this week is one spot in Organizing with Your Kids!
If you’re overwhelmed by your kids’ clutter or you’re just tired of dealing with it, please know that you’re not alone. Even if you’re fairly organized, it’s always a different ball game when you’re organizing for someone else. And when it’s your own child, the stakes are even higher. I find that parents often judge themselves based on the results of their children. (Does this sound familiar?)
I’ve been there, too. Right after becoming an organizer, I realized some of the spaces in my home didn’t look like they belonged in the home of a professional organizer. My daughter’s bedroom was right at the top of that list! She was a four year old who loved her stuff. All of it! The stuff was coming in—from birthday parties, Christmas, gifts from grandparents—faster than we could keep up and clear things out. This, coupled with my daughter’s sentimental side, made it difficult to keep her room clutter free…which made me doubt myself as a parent and an organizer.
Fast forward six years and I have learned a lot about how to organize with kids. Even more important, my kids have learned a lot. In fact, my son, now 12, organized his closet on his own after a recent shopping trip. I didn’t ask him to do it…he wanted to do it and he did it all by himself! My daughter recently decluttered and organized our craft and homework cabinet—all by herself! All those years of going through their stuff together and involving them in the organizing process paid off!

Kids can learn how to get organized just as they can learn how to ride a bike or brush their teeth. And you, as their parent, are the best person to teach your child how to do it. With the tips, secrets and strategies presented in this workshop, you’ll learn the process I’ve been using with my kids for years. You’ll leave this workshop armed with a plan and a process to create organized spaces that will work well for you and your kids. You will also have strategies and ideas for teaching your child organizing skills and habits that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.
When you teach your kids how to get organized, you give them a gift that lasts a lifetime! So, to celebrate the start of this new online workshop, we’re giving a gift to one lucky winner—the gift of a spot in this workshop. Sound fun? If you’re interested, here’s what to do:

My biggest challenge when organising with the kids is getting them to give away or throw away things they no longer use or love!
My biggest challenge is first getting myself organized so that my kids can learn by my example! The next challenge is the daily papers and then the end of school year flood of paperwork. It’s hard to keep up on all of it!
Will this workshop include a professional organizer at my house to help me out? Just kidding! How many weeks is this course?
My biggest challenge … Persuading my 4 year old that it is worth being organised. She just doesn’t care that things get lost if we never tidy up!
A question … Do these online workshops work for people anywhere in the world? (In in London). Is it all done in your own time, or do I need to be able to ‘connect’ to a discussion in a particular time-slot?
My challenging in organizing with my son is getting him motivated and focused on what we are doing? He doesn’t see the value in it. By nature he is a clutterer so it carries into all aspects, but I’m not sure how to find his “trigger.”
Would my son attend this workshop with me? Will you be directly talking to the kids – or is this more for us parents to take into our homes?
My biggest challenge is keeping things in one spot, my 6-year old has things on her desk, in the living room, in the dining room, in the bathroom, they are everywhere
Question: What can I do to keep all the little things my daughter has in order? Such as her pieces of clay for art; leaves, sticks, rocks brought inside. I am at a lost as to what to do with it all.
Posted link on Facebook saying this is a “must do” course for me
And have done a tweet with a link, thanks for this opportunity
My biggest challenge is getting my daughter to relinquish any of her stuff!
Are you going to address the issue of spouses with conflicting opinions on how much clutter is acceptable to allow for kids?
Reminding them to pick up their toys instead of leaving them strewn around the house. They feel that cleaning up is a waste of time.
My question is what to do with outgrown clothes/toys since we are planning to have another child?
My biggest challenge is I have no idea why my kids don’t like to organized. Because we don’t see eye to eye I get so bothered that I just give up.
My biggest challenge is the clothes left on the floor which need to be either hung up or put in the laundry basket.
What age is this workshop recommended for?
My question is how do you teach children that it is better to be organized?
One of our biggest challenges is maintaining an organized space once we’ve cleaned and set it up. I feel like I have to constantly remind my kids to pick up after themselves.
