…and requests for info!
There’s so much stuff happening now with me it’s simply mind boggling. The fact that its *good stuff*… well that is the icing my friends.
Here’s a quick run-down of some of the good stuff you might be interested in…
It’s a bird, it’s a plane … nope it’s a book! If you didn’t catch it on Wendy’s blog last week … here’ the news: Wendy and I are co-writing a book together. Can’t believe we kept it a secret so long. Not even sure why we did. 🙂 It’s called “The Organized and Inspired Scrapbooker.” Two of my favorite things all wrapped up in one book. Fun, yes?
So … what does this mean to you? Well … one thing we would absolutely love is to hear from YOU. What are your scrapbook related organizing dilemmas? We have a ton of great material planned for the book but we would love to do a sanity check … did we miss THE big dilemma? YOUR big dilemma? So please let us know your organizing dilemmas of any size or magnitude. Any info is mucho appreciated.
More good stuff. I’m heading to Utah on Sunday to stay with Wendy and work on our book. So fun. I’ve never been in a house with five kids. Never been to Utah.
And I’m sure there will be many more firsts … such as my first time on a plane for a year. I hear there are new restrictions for what you can carry-on. If you have the scoop, I’d love to know. Guess I could call the airline … but it seems as if coping strategies from friends like you would be way more helpful. Like … is it true about no liquids on the plane? And if so, what exactly does one suggest to prevent my contacts from becoming glued to my eyeballs? Seriously … this is a huge issue for me … not sure how to handle it. Buy four bottles of unopened solution … one for each leg of the trip? See … I need some serious help. If you have any coping strategies for airline travel … I would love to hear from you.
There’s more good stuff … but I must go work on this good stuff … so keep your eyes here for more news … coming soon. (And maybe even an on-the-road report from Utah.)
Have a terrific day!
Fabuloso about the new book!!! Congrats to both of you!!
My big dilemma: how to store the scraps of paper I want to keep for future projects. I am a visual person and will not use it if I don’t see it, but my current “dumping ground” basket isn’t working either.
my dilema is with paper storage.
should i keep all the paper from one manufacturer together or store all mixed up and sorted by colors? is there a way to store regular adn 12×12 paper together?
good luck with the book!
my big dilema:
How to pack for a crop now that I have a beautifully organized scrapbook room? All my stuff is stored in containers or drawers or bottles or on shelves where I use them everyday. But when it comes to packing up all that stuff for a crop it’s nearly impossible because their new storage containers don’t exactly fit into a crop bag. I love going to crops for the social aspect, but I find myself dreading them more and more since I remodeled my new room.
BTW, here’s some pictures of my scrapbook studio:

Can’t wait to see what you and Wendy come up with. How exciting!

Aby – congratulations! how awesome for you. That’s a book I would totally buy!
and my dilema…
I have space issues. My scrap area is in our dining room and there is not a lot of space. I would just like to be able to make it all work without looking like I have crap out everywhere… and you know I’m all about being organized.
Again, congrats! so cool!
Great news on the book – looking forward to seeing it! My dilemma: the paper storage issue mentioned above and while I get the ‘store by color’ thing, there are lots of misc. things that don’t seem to have a color! I’ve just got so many misc. items and so little space. Whenever I see articles about small spaces, they only have a half dozen supplies! I’d love to see storage of a alot of supplies in a small area!
As for planes, you can take liquids as long as you check your luggage. I know it’s a pain but . . . they do allow 3 oz. (I think that’s the right amount) to go in carry-on, so a really small amount of contact cleaner can go on the plane with you.
Hope this helps!
Beth
Ok – one more thing. I would love a list of places where I can donate scrapbook supplies. Actual places (just can’t find the time to do the research). Thanks!
Beth
congrats! sounds like a great book!
1) How do I pack for a crop without packing my whole room?
2) How to store rubons and stickers
3) What about the random bits of things that end up around the room that don’t really go with anything?
Regarding flying regulations – I flew recently, and they won’t allow anything that is over 2oz. For instance, they were going to take everything in my toiletry bag. You can only carry 2oz or less of hairspray, toothpaste, makeup remover, lotions, shampoo and conditioners, shaving cream, etc. They told me the best thing to do is to go to the store and buy travel size of everything. Otherwise, you have to check in your toiletry bag.
Hope this helps.
Hi, Aby,
First, CONGRATULATIONS on the book! I can’t wait to get my hands on that! I can only imagine how great it’s going to be… you and Wendy together? AMAZING!
Second, Here’s the scoop on flying: You can take liquids, but they have to be 3 oz. or smaller (not 2 oz. or smaller), and they all have to fit in one 1-quart plastic bag such as a freezer bag. Some things you may not think are liquids that the airline actually considers liquids are: lip gloss (but not lip stick),deodorant (no matter what type: stick, gel, etc.), and toothpaste. These don’t exactly qualify as liquids to me, but to TSA they do. Anyway, when I flew last week I wanted to carry on my bag, but my hair (spray)gel was in a 3.4 oz bottle, so I thought, should I risk it or not? I decided to go for it, and it went through unquestioned. When you go through security you’ll need to pull the plastic bag out of your carry on bag and put it in one of the plastic bins and put it on the belt. I’ve never seen TSA go through these plastic bags piece by piece unless someone had it packed so full that it wouldn’t lie flat, so as long as your bottles look small and as long as your bag isn’t too full, they shouldn’t question it. You can’t carry bottled water through even if the bottle is still sealed; however they will let you buy a bottled water after you pass through security to take on the plane. You couldn’t do that a few months ago, but they’ve loosened the restrictions since then. Just bring an extra $5 to buy the bottle of water because you know that’s how much they’ll charge you for a $.50 bottle of water at the airport!!!!!! And you’re lucky if you get more than that tiny little glass on the plane anymore, so I would highly suggest the water for the long flight.
You’re going to love Utah. I think Salt Lake is just beautiful! Unlike Denver where the mountains are so far away, in Salt Lake you feel like they are right on top of you. It’s gorgeous! But it can make the last 20 minutes of the flight really bumpy sometimes…if you’re weak in the stomach like me, keep the little white bag handy!!
Lisa
Oh, and by the way, I’d start drinking a few extra glasses of water every day until you leave and drink as much as you can on the plane to help get yourself hydrated. It’s really different when you go to a dry climate like CO or UT; you don’t realize how dehydrated you can get so quickly. It can give you a pretty bad headache. So my final tip is drink lots of water and pack some Advil.
First of all, congrats on your book. My big dilemma: I am a single mom with two boys (ages 7 and 2) who works full time and has my scrap stuff crammed into a little corner of my bedroom. It doesn’t fit and it’s not organized, and I don’t want my bedroom to look like a craftroom, but there isn’t anywhere else to put it. Lots of stuff + little space = big problem. Getting time for myself is a big challenge — even when the kids are in bed I still have a ton of stuff to do. I have taken courses online (through Big Picture) which I enjoy, but completing the project on time is tough.
Awesome! Can’t wait for the book!!
My dilemma is how do I avoid piling stuff (either new purchases, scraps or projects) on every flat surface in my scraproom? It’s hard to scrap in the few hours a week I get when I spend the majority of my time cleaning up!
Also–how/when to squueze in time when my husband is deployed. He leaves for 3-4months at a time, and with a 4yr old and 10month old, it’s near impossible to scrap! Any “short on time” tips?
About that flight stuff–I agree with Lisa M about the water thing….altitude sickness can hit you fast if you aren’t used to it! I’m from CO, but live in GA (thanks to the Navy) and we prep ourselves and our kids for the change in altitude and humidity for about a week before we travel!
Safe travels!
I scrap on a card table at home in the corner of my TV room. I also like to scrap at friends’ homes and need storage items that travel well, but can also be used at home. What do you suggest?
Congrats on the book!! can’t wait to order it!!!
My dilemma is this. I have a home office that is galley style. one side is my office, the other my scrap area. There are cabinets above my desk on the office side and on the scrap side there are floor to ceiling cabinets with four doors. How do I store items so things are easily accessible in tall cabinets and where and how do I store my photos waiting to be scrapped. should I take up a whole cabinet? I sure do need this new book.
Thanks
Congrats to you and Wendy on the book project!!! I can’t wait till it’s published.
My dilemma is too much stuff and so little space! Gonna do a purge next month at a craft yard sale. Perhaps a section on shopping psychology would be good!! I’m working on adapting that less is more philosophy.
Jeanette 🙂
Can’t wait for your book. Love your newsletter, too.
My dilemma is also too much stuff and not enough space. Is it best to try to organize and label everything by color (which seems to be a trend right now) or by item? It’s so discouraging to try to find that one item you know you have, but can’t find.
Also, keeping track of items you’ve already purchased. Should you use a spreadsheet to list everything so you don’t end up purchasing the same color of stamp pad or the same punch (because you can’t find it)?
Have fun in SLC.
Last airline tip: If you have any prescription medications they will allow them on the plane – as long as they are in their original bottle. When we travel I am the keeper of all family medications & I end up going through security with 2 epi pens, huge bottles of antihistamines & kids motrin all in a plastic bag. I’ve never been questioned when I let them know (though I travel with a note from the doctor, just in case.)
Also – you mentioned that you’ll have multiple legs of the trip…you won’t need to go through security at the second airport – you’ll just go directly to your connecting gate.
oooh! i can’t WAIT for the book!!! here are some of my concerns…though some are already stated here by others:
1. space…i scrap in my dining room. how to use the space to the best of my ability?
2. how to store minibooks and other creations, or the odd-shaped supplies to make these things.
a question/idea…i have a few of my own solutions…but didn’t know if you were polling others to see how they are handling common situations, or if this is more where you want to show others a NEW way to do things. let me know if you are looking for how others are currently doing things…i could always offer my solution…and you could offer a BETTER twist on it, maybe?
Yay! I can’t wait for your book! I read your blogs every day, looking for hints and ideas. I’m going to be building a new guest room/craft room and need ideas to start from scratch. I started scrapping before I knew to sort by manufacturer, so it’s too late now… I need help in choosing organizational tools – I’ll buy basket after box after cart after bucket… I have a lot of things that just aren’t right… Help!
Wahooooooo – that is such terrific news! I cannot wait to have that book!
My big dilemmas: (ha – notice the plural)
Storing embellishments – all diffrent sizes, themes, colors manufacturers. I always forget what I have and then by the time I remember or run across it, the perfect pictures for it are already scrapped or they are no longer “fashionable.”
How can I have my computer in my scrapbook room and not be blogging or e-mailing all the time? Ok, I am partially joking here – but seriously – I must have no will power.
I fly for work quite a bit, so have gotten familiar with the travel regs:
the containers of liquid have to be 3 ounces or less (the if you half of a bigger tube of toothpaste, it won’t work – the container itself can hold no more than 3 oz) and it all has to fit within a one quart zippie bag. Lip balm does not have to go in that zippie – only liquid / gel products.
