Fall is finally here! It’s a chilly sixty something today and rainy. Ah…it’s simply delicious. I’m burning a candle and wearing wool socks…which I realize might seem a bit extreme for sixty degrees, but remember how hot my house was all summer long? This is brrr-ville!
I had so much fun with the summer fun post at the start of the summer…I thought I’d do a similar post for the fall. I hope you’ll share what YOU are looking forward to this fall…so maybe we can all start some new, fun, fall traditions!
Pumpkin Patch
We go to the same farm every year and ride a tractor-pulled wagon from the farm to the pumpkin patch. What is it about a pumpkin patch that is so darn happy? Those round, orange fellows just make me smile. We went yesterday…and it was a simply delicious day.
Neighborhood Parties
The chill in the air is just perfect for neighborhood camp fires. Can’t wait to make some s’mores and hangout with the neighbors. Love that.
Blue Jeans and Sweaters
I seriously can’t imagine living somewhere without a change of seasons. I’m just as excited to wear jeans and sweaters now, as I was to pull out the skirts and flip flops in May.
Hot Chocolate
The wait is over…it’s almost hot chocolate season again. Woohoo!
Scrapbooking
Every season is scrapbook season…but especially with the weather getting cooler and the days getting shorter, it’s just fun to stay inside and do some scrapbooking. I’m working on the Brownie’s scrapbook, using Collin as my guinea pig. So fun. Thanks again for all the great ideas!
Halloween
I have to admit, this isn’t my favorite holiday…but I do love the trick-or-treating. We have a ton of kids in our neighborhood and it’s just a super fun night. And it’s so soon! Have you gotten your costumes figured out yet? I have a witch and a baseball player. How about you?
Birthday Parties
My kid’s birthdays are just around the corner…so it’s about to become birthday-party-planning-central at the Garvey household.
Candles
When the days get shorter I love to burn candles. It smells yummy and feels so warm and cozy…something not so appealing in the heat of the summer. So it’s nice and relaxing change of pace.
Fires in the Fireplace
One *must* Jay and I both wanted when we built our house years and years ago was a wood burning fireplace. I’m so glad we did…I sill love the relaxing sound of a warm and crackling fire. I can’t wait!
How about you…what are your favorite fall traditions?
In sunny Arizona, Fall means we don’t have to put a towel down on the leather seats before we get in. It means we can actually open the windows in the morning before it gets too hot and it’s time to start planting out winter grass. It’s nice to see green grass all year round, but a leaf color change would be nice. Of course, the first day it dipped below 100, the kids and I had our hot chocolate! Woo hoo!
Aahhhh…..I couldn’t agree more! There’s definitely something delicious about the entire season!

Fall is my favorite season. The smell of leaves…the sound of the leaves…pumpkin picking…it’s a great season.
Okay, now, I’m trying to embrace the season – long story about me and Susan Branch…I don’t have much favorite about Fall…although raking leaves today was actually kind of fun. And while my husband is constantly after us to turn off lights when we leave a room, I explained I need a light on here and there when the days start to grow shorter – cheers me up.
Love, love, love this season!
Hi Aby
You’ve been tagged. Check out my blog…

Fires in the fireplace.
Stacking wood at our lake house.
The time btw Thanksgiving & New Years.
Eating, eating & eating comfort food. Did I say eating?
Then running after all that eating. Hate running in the summer months…yuk! I prefer it to be 20-30 degrees out.
And last but not least, movies. I feel if I watch movies in the summer, I’m wasting time…but winter, love it. Movies, fire and comfort food. Oh yeah, and a bottle of wine.
now if it would only get colder…today is 74 and muggy. GROSS!!

Hi Aby,
I’m totally with you on all counts! My girls actually wanted to light the fireplace yesterday (it got down to about 57)! They want to play out front on their bikes and scooters (which they DON’T want to do in the heat) which makes me want to scrapbook, because my office window faces the street out front. I just got your new book, so I’m reorganzing my scrap room, AND my girls room (loving the teleclass). That’s my other fall thing, wanting to reorganize.
Oh, and make soup!! Mmmmm.
Fall (in WI) for us means it’s volleyball season. My husband’s nieces both play on the high school team. So every Tuesday and Thursday are spent cheering on the Tigers! -Laura
I love the fall too. i love the crispness to the air and just everything about it..the leaves, pumpkins, cider, and the coolness to let you grab a blanket and feel cozy :). I am not a fan of halloween either…but it is fun for the kids…My daughter will be Tinkerbell…and my sons will be spiderman and a bumblebee! 🙂
Autumn is my favorite time of the year, as far as the beauty of it. However, the weather leaves something to be desired anymore. The pumpkin patch really is spirit-lifting! If not for the scenery, for the happy children, (and the carmel apples); it is a happy place to be! I also love The Great River Road that runs between the Mississippi River and the bluffs. The colors down the whole highway send such a beautiful message that a new season is approaching! Tis the season for an old quilt, a cup of hot chocolate, and a good book! (While a big pot of chili simmers on the stove!) Mmm. Yummy!
P.S. Anyone know a good recipe for homemade hot chocolate? I tried so hard last year, and just couldn’t get it right.
Fall is my favorite, and I love all those things you listed too. I have 2 little ninjas this year for Halloween. Oh, and it’s birthday mode around our house too…the little one’s 3rd b-day is Friday, and the older one’s 7th b-day is in 2 weeks.
I recieved my play magenzie this week. thank you! I am loving it!!
I love fall too.. love wearing sweaters and jeans… watching my boys jump into the leaves… pumpkin patch… craving the pumpkins… trick or treating… drinking hot chocolate while scrapbooking the fall activities pictures.. baking cookies.. and the list could go on 🙂
my boys are going to be a pirate and fireman.
happy halloween if i dont post again before then.
I have to admit, fall has never been one of my favourite seasons, but I am “warming” up to it. We have gone to the pumpkin patch every year since my oldest was a baby. I love looking at the pictures from each year and seeing how my kids are growing. The fall leaves are beautiful and I’m enjoying crunching in them with my kids. Gotta love the pumpkin pie!!! That’s probably my most favourite thing about fall.
