“When your kitchen is organized and set up so it works for you and how you live, it makes every day easier and more enjoyable.” ~Aby Garvey

Keep in mind, however, that what works for you will change over time. For example, when I went through the Organize Your Kitchen process a year and half ago, I chose my toaster as one of the only small appliances to keep on the counter since we used it so frequently. This saved me time because the toaster was out and easy to use, plus fewer items on the counter meant less clutter. But recently, I found myself wasting a lot of time and steps getting the blender in and out of the pantry each day. (We’re on a pretty major smoothie kick! 😉 ) The toaster, on the other hand, is only getting used maybe once a week. As our eating habits and preferences have changed, so have our needs. Time for an organizational change.

Trays are a great solution for storing and transporting your toaster around the kitchen

I decided to swap the homes of the blender and the toaster. The blender now gets its own spot on the counter, and the toaster lives in the pantry. I use a melamine tray to make it easier to move the toaster to the counter for use, and avoid breadcrumb messes as it gets moved around. This simple change has made the daily task of smoothie making faster and easier. Gotta’ love simple organizing projects.

Today’s tip is to do a gut check on your kitchen. Is your kitchen set up to reflect your current lifestyle? Is your  kitchen organized in a way that saves you time and makes it easy to cook and clean up afterward? If not, consider rearranging a few items so that things you use frequently are stored in the easiest-to-access areas of your kitchen.

Happy organizing!
